Over the past decade, many artists worldwide have had their work reproduced on canvas or watercolor paper with state-of-the-art equipment. These prints are called
Giclées. They can be much larger than traditional prints and look more like original art than anything that has ever been done before. The
Giclée process is expensive, compared to conventional printmaking, but they are priced much lower than original art, which is why
Giclées have become so popular. Their value is decorative since they are reproductions, not originals.
My friend and fellow artist, John Farnsworth, explains the process beautifully:
“Giclée [zhee-clay] is a French word meaning “to spray”. In other words, it is an inkjet print, much like those that can now be produced on a desktop printer...but with steroids, capable of printing large format images on canvas, using as many as fourteen colors.
Giclée printers spray millions of microscopic droplets of ink per second. The resolutions are higher than traditional offset lithography, resulting in crisp contrast and rich, intense colors. The results can be breathtaking…”
Since my original oil paintings are created on canvas, all of my Giclées are done on canvas as well. They are available framed or unframed, and each
Giclée print is priced by size.
I am following John Farnsworth’s lead in offering my Giclée buyers the opportunity to “trade up”. In other words, if you decide to collect or commission an original Eyestone, you have the option to return your
Giclée for a higher valued original oil painting.
Most of my paintings are now available as small, medium, or very large Giclées on canvas. If there is a particular painting that you see elsewhere on my website, please telephone my office and we will get a price-quote from our printers for you.
